letters; what would it take?

What would it take for you to leave Facebook?

I'm not swinging for the fences here with an ask to ditch Instagram, TikTok, or your smartphone. The focus is narrow.

I'm curious:

Why have you remained?

If the stats and research haven't convinced you, what would?

If you don't use it but desire a "digital presence", why not consider the cost of your vote?

If you feel trapped within its games, can I show you many who have found a way out?

There's a "Write a Letter" feature in the footer of my site.

If you still have a Facebook, even one you don't check, write to me, even anonymously, on what it would take to delete it.

In this period of societal transition, social platforms are being held liable. CEOs are answering for the harmful designs of their interfaces. The bill has come and it's longer than the value we receive for the purchase social media has in our lives.

I'm leaning in here to learn because your online presence reinforces a story.

A pernicious story that we all must be beholden to a platform, adding to it our whole life. A false narrative that we have no power to take back from the tech giants. An idea that keeping things the same doesn't hurt anyone, that our participation is just a drop in a sea of distractions.

So let me ask it differently: not what would it take, but what are you holding onto?

Write and tell me. The letter feature is in the footer.
